I don't know if anyone else here has been having trouble installing their game on an older computer.

Here are links to download/install the drivers/extra files that I needed, in case it helps someone.

Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Web Installer) Need an internet connection to install this one.

Windows Imaging Component (WIC) The file for English is labeled enu.exe. Has other languages too.

Sparkle 8400GS 256 MB 64-bit DDR2 DVI PCI-Express 2.0 HDCP Ready Low Profile Silent Video Card This is the video card I bought, one of the least expensive I found. It's listed on the back of the game as needing a 256 MB video card and this one is the NVIDIA GeForce 8400, which matches one of the numbers listed on the back.

FYI: It's still not installed for me because I'm waiting on the video card, which is on the way, so I'll see what happens! Hope this helps those with older computers like mine!

More/better medieval music

I love the music in the game, but it is a bit lacking in variety and sometimes there's no music at all. So I wanted to talk about getting more music.

Is there any way to add music to the game? I'm guessing there isn't, I didn't see anything in the options. And since there's not, I come bearing both suggestion and idea for the community. I use a free service called last.fm, you can use it to search for a 'tag' and it will play using with the tag. Other services like 8tracks, pandora, etc, do this. So, if you want good free medieval music streaming On last.fm, you can also add tags. If enough songs/artists are tagged, and by multiple people, a "radio station" is created where you can search for that tag and it plays. I have used this in the past to create custom radio stations for myself using my own and a puppet account, it takes a while to finally start working, but it's nice when it does.  It also favors music that has been given that tag by more people, so if one person adds a stupid song, it's not played often. And you can always ban songs from playing to you ever again.

So, if anyone is interested, I'm going to start tagging songs "sims medieval" (no quotes) with my own account and my puppet account. Basically anything I find to be appropriate and nice to listen to when I'm playing the game. Feel free to add your own or listen to that tag radio station.

Huge problem with TSM

Okay, so its a problem I have had since I got the game and was hoping wouldn't happen again so I wouldn't have to worry about it. But it has.

Problem: I start up a new game and play through a few quests, buying new buildings, getting new sims and progressing a fair way through the New begginings part. Then, as I start to play more and more and want more buildings placed, the game crashes, and restarts my laptop. After another 3 tries of playing the game, an error comes up saying "There has been a serious error with the file "kingdomname.tsm". we suggest you restart the applicaton." So I quit the game and go into it again and it says the same thing. Eventually, I ended up deleting that kingdom and starting again and this morning when I booted up and started playing, its done the same thing again.

I haven't changed my game in any way.

I tried the testingcheatsenabled thing this morning but it wouldn't let me change it so nothing in the game folder has been altered. This is the second time I have had to delete my kingdom and start all over again (and let me tell you, NOT FUN)

I feel like giving up and un-installing and then re-installing the game again,

Any help or suggestions or ideas?
In case you haven't read about it, our favorite cheat does work with Sims Medieval, but you'll have to edit a file to get it working, instead of just being able to type it into the console. Once this is turned on, it is on permanently so, you'd have to edit the file again to turn it off. PLEASE BE CAREFUL :)

This has been posted many places on the web thus far, but I saw it on SimPrograms and will type out instructions here (just a reminder, I'm using Windows 7 64 bit so my file structure might be different from yours):

NOTE: You must be Admin of your computer. You must turn off UAC controls.

1) Go to the main game folder on your hard drive, not My Documents. My path looks like this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Games\Electronic Arts\The Sims Medieval\GameData\Shared\NonPackaged\Ini

2) In the Ini folder there is a file called "Commands.ini". Right click on the file and choose COPY. Then click any where in the folder or on your Desktop and choose PASTE. This copy will be a back up of the file in case something goes screwy.

3) Right click on the file "Commands.ini" and choose PROPERTIES. On the bottom of the pop-up window, you'll see Attributes and "read-only" checked. UNCHECK "read-only". Click OK.

4) Double click on the file to open it. Look for the text "TestingCheatsEnabled=0" and change that ending 0 to a 1. Save the file and close it.

That's it. This will of course, unlock all debugging tools so again, be careful. I've already experienced 2 bugged quests and been able to fix it AFTER having the debug tools enabled.

If you have any questions about getting this working, just comment. I'll edit this post with any additional help.

This was totally by accident. I did this myself so I know it works: if you CNTRL + click on the quest icon that is next to your Sims' picture, it will complete that quest stage. I'm glad I didn't know about this sooner or I might have let my frustrations get the best of me i.e. how am I supposed to poison someone? ohrite, I need to gather the ingredients for the poison, borrow someone's crafting table, PHAIL at making it the first time, gather the ingredients again, then know that I can't give it to them directly and somehow figure out to add it to the Ale Cask, then build up a relationship to serve it to them and hope they don't wander too far and then have them drink it. But, yeah.

[3/27/11] Also found (copied straight from the console descriptions):

DisableRespos - Will disable Responsibilities.
EnableRespos - Will re-enable Responsibilities if they are disbaled.
ShowAllQuests - Unlocks all quests - you should be able to test any quest, provided you satisfy the requirements. Run ag [text box gets cut off so I can't see what the rest of the description says].
ShowAllValidQuests - Shows all valid quests that could potentially be shown to the player right now.
ShowAllValidQuestsNoAspect - Shows all quests that could potentially be shown to the player right now, ignori [text box gets cut off so I can't see what the rest of the description says].

I can't believe there isn't a command to unlock all ambitions, or is there?!??!
I have just started a new kingdom and so far it looks like you can carry over all your Sims (including their levels, inventory, etc) and the buildings and such stay there. IE you don't start from scratch. It also appears to save your money, furnishings, etc.

You also unlock a LOT of new items and furnishings when you complete an Ambition. Very cool!

Edit: Maybe this is not the case. The game gave me a quest to start a new kingdom, but it looks like it's the same one. I may have to quit this kingdom and start from scratch like was said. I apologize if I was wrong, that's the impression it gave me.

Edit 2: YUP. Looks like I was wrong. The game gave the distinct impression I was starting a new game by "starting a new kingdom", but it was the same Ambition/kingdom. You can still go back and do freeplay, but no, you have to start from scratch. Lame. :\

Sims Medieval Out in Australia

And I got the last copy at the video game store...

It's driving me NUTS. Who has it? What do you think? How well does it run? I'm going to go maddddd. Maybe I'll just suck it up and buy another computer...

Byrnehold Legacy Chapter 1.0

So here's my first legacy, and the first (attempt at) a Medieval legacy. I'm learning as I go, both as far as making legacies and playing the game. I'm a bit tired of dealing with images right now, so I'm going to play a while (and maybe take some more) before dealing with images ALL over again. However, there's plenty of images on the legacy post. Just follow the image below. :)
